

It was really easy to make and I found all the ingredients in my local grocery store, which is saying a lot. I am sure a few of you have figured out that the new base that we live at has very limited range of food. So I was pretty happy when I saw that the commissary actually sold hoisin sauce and vermicelli. However if you cannot find vermicelli you can use spaghetti instead. You might need to buy a few ingredients that you might not have on hand but it will be well worth it because you will be making this recipe again soon after. Oh yeah, it is that good.

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 2 tsp. garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 tsp. fresh ginger, minced
- 1/2-1 1/2 tsp. dry crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 Tbsp. sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 3/4 c. beef broth
- 1/3 c. hoisin sauce
- 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 8 oz vermicelli
- 1/2 c. sliced green onion
- Cook pasta according to package and set aside.
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, drain and set aside.
- In the same pan pour in sesame oil and heat till hot. Add the onion , garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes and saute until tender until tender.
- In a bowl combine cornstarch and beef broth, whisking until smooth.
- Stir broth mixture, hoisin sauce, and soy sauce into onion mixture. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly; boil, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Stir in ground beef.
- Add pasta to the pan and toss until covered in sauce, sprinkle with sliced green onions.

What can you use if it is a little to spicy? I like not hot spicy things. it looks so good , would love to try. Thanks
ReplyDeleteGayle- I would suggest either omitting the red pepper flakes or only putting a pinch in if you don't like spicy foods. You will still get the flavor of the dish but minus the heat level.
