Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

When we lived in California my cookies would always puff up like tiny cakes, every time. Then my husband seen an episode of Good Eats on the food network about chocolate chip cookies and the different ways to make them to get different results. Of course we didn't need the "puffy" cookie recipe because I was mastering that just fine. Maybe that was due to the altitude? This recipe actually works, the cookies come out chewy and definitely not cake like.

  • 1 c. butter/margarine, melted
  • 2 1/4 c. bread flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 c. dark chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Stir together flour, salt and baking soda, set aside.
  3. Pour the melted butter in large mixing bowl. Add sugar and brown sugar. Cream the butter and sugars until smooth.
  4. Add the egg, yolk, milk and vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until thoroughly combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Scoop cookie dough onto parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown. Check after 5 minutes.

These cookies look good. My cookies never seem to come out quite right.

Any kind of chocolate chip cookie, puffy, crispy, cakey, whatever, gets my vote. It's chocolate. It's good. I really could use some chocolate now!
